The Milky Way at 5000 Meters

Monday, July 13th, 2009

Climb up to 5000 meters (16,500 feet) above sea level, near Cerro Chajnantor in the northern Chilean Andes, and your night sky could encompass this cosmic vista. Recorded from that high and dry locale, the spectacular fish-eye image features the myriad stars and sprawling dust clouds of our Milky Way Galaxy. The direction toward the center of the Galaxy is near the zenith and center of the picture, but the Galactic Center itself is hidden from view, located far behind the obscuring dust. Brilliant Jupiter rules this scene just above the Milky Way’s central bulge with the noticeably fainter, yellowish, giant star Antares to its right. Small and faint, near the right edge of the picture is one of the Milky Way’s many satellite galaxies, the Small Magellanic Cloud.

APOD: 2007 September 30 – A Milky Way Band

Monday, July 13th, 2009

Most bright stars in our Milky Way Galaxy reside in a disk. Since our Sun also resides in this disk, these stars appear to us as a diffuse band that circles the sky. The above panorama of a northern band of the Milky Way’s disk covers 90 degrees and is a digitally created mosaic of several independent exposures. Scrolling right will display the rest of this spectacular picture. Visible are many bright stars, dark dust lanes, red emission nebulae, blue reflection nebulae, and clusters of stars. In addition to all this matter that we can see, astronomers suspect there exists even more dark matter that we cannot see.

South Jersey Skies: Its the end of the world again!

Monday, July 13th, 2009

The Mayan calendar doesn’t end in 2012; rather, a new cycle begins then, rather like an odometer reaching 100,000 miles. It does not appear that the solar cycle coming up will be a particularly active one, and it looks like it will peak in 2013 rather than 2012. The solar system will not be moving through the plane of the Milky Way for a few million years. So don’t waste a lot of worry on 2012!

2012 End of The World: End of the World Reflections

Saturday, July 11th, 2009

There are many hypotheses about how would the world end, but how would anyone know for sure. Even though we know for sure that the sun will lose its power due to using up its hydrogen supply, but it will probably happen in couple of billions years. The real question is then what would happen sooner that would destroy our world. According to the article: “20 ways the world could end swept away”, the author speculates about the potential causes of the destruction of our world such as asteroid impact, environmental toxins and global warming. Asteroid impact is a hypothetical cause of world destruction.

Mayan Motif Crop Circle Formation Returns to Silbury Hill

Tuesday, July 7th, 2009

Just what is this formation that appeared so close to Silbury Hill telling us? Summer 2009 has been another treasure trove of crop circle formations and they just keep getting better and more interesting. We have previously featured articles on the Phoenix and Dragonfly formations (which appeared in the same field) as well as the amazing Jellyfish formation found nearby. On July 5 a Mayan style crop circle formation appeared near the ancient and mysterious Silbury Hill, which is the tallest prehistoric man-made mound in Europe and is near Avebury, Wiltshire. Even though mainstream media spends a lot of time trying to debunk crop circles, the majority of formations that appear in England near neolithic sites are never proven as hoaxes; they are simply created by forces that we currently do not understand.

Mayan Calendar 2012 Consciousness is the Key

Monday, July 6th, 2009

Consciousness is the key to understanding the prophecies contained within the Mayan Calendar predictions for 2012. Despite the ‘mainstream media’ hype insisting that we are approaching doomsday, the present day Mayan elders have a very different interpretation, and they procaim that our future is very bright! According to Mayan Astrology, our species is experiencing a collective transformation of consciousness that is the goal of our immersion in ‘history’.

#SarahPalin 2012 and the Mayan Calendar

Monday, July 6th, 2009

Palin has been polluting the news channels with her unimportant and pathetic attempts to remain relevant. Also very likely as 2012 is the same year that the Mayan calendar ends,  leading to the alleged end of the world as we know it. I’m slowly becoming a believer.

Underground lab searching for dark matter

Sunday, July 5th, 2009

Located two kilometres deep into the Vale Inco Creighton Mine, near Sudbury, Ont, the SNOLAB International Underground Science Facility (www.snolab.ca) is an ultra-clean environment, shielded from most of the effects of cosmic rays. It’s the deepest lab of its kind. From inside its isolated confines, scientists search for dark matter particles left over from the Big Bang and try to pinpoint a rare radioactive process called neutrino-less double beta decay which could spell out how matter evolved in the early universe. The dark matter the SNOLAB site hunts for is thought to make up about 25% of the mass in the universe. The rest is 5% ordinary matter — what you and I are made up of — with the remaining of the universe comprised of “Dark Energy.” Debate rages about what Dark Matter particles are, as scientists around the world try to search for it.

#MichaelJackson and Numerology

Sunday, July 5th, 2009

“The 911 call went in at 12:21. But it was already too late.” The numbers 911 appear to be the most important numbers in current evolutionary movement, and are not just the emergency code for the United States. The symbolism in this instance suggests that if we wait to make the necessary changes in ourselves, and on Earth, until 12-21-2012 it will, indeed be too late. 2012 appears to be a tipping point in the journey – a point of no return. We must evolve as we need to, or there will be no time in which to do so at the last moment. Therefore, speculating as to what may happen on that date is irrelevant. It is what we do – or stop doing – leading UP to that date that matters. And then, as if to repeat the warning, I read: Jackson was pronounced dead at 2:26pm, and again 18 minutes later at 2:44pm. 1+8 minutes = 9 2+2+6=10. 1+0=1 2+4+4=10. 1+0=1
